Role overview
Maas Construct is looking for a senior Project Director to take charge of a major construction program and lead it from a top-level delivery, commercial, safety, and quality perspective. The position is open to candidates anywhere in Australia, but it requires travel to project locations across the country.
Maas Construct is the building construction arm of Maas Group Holdings, an Australian ASX-listed group with operations across property, civil works, infrastructure, mining, construction materials, plant and equipment hire, real estate, and manufacturing. Established in 2002, the group has grown into a large integrated business with more than 2,000 employees and a fleet of over 550 machines. Its focus is on delivering high-quality buildings and infrastructure for regional communities while maintaining a strong, values-led culture and sustainable growth.
What the role involves
This position carries full accountability for project outcomes, including schedule performance, commercial results, HSE performance, and workmanship standards. The successful candidate will set the direction for the project team, keep delivery and commercial functions aligned, and apply the leadership discipline needed to deliver a complex project safely, profitably, and on time.
Project leadership and delivery
- Provide direction to the entire project team so milestones and program targets are achieved and the project is delivered on schedule.
- Guide the Construction Operations Manager, Project Manager, Site Manager, and Engineering Lead in their day-to-day responsibilities.
- Handle relationships with the client and principal stakeholders at project level, resolving concerns quickly and in a professional way.
- Run major governance forums and ensure the project is supported by solid controls, risk oversight, and consistent reporting.
Commercial, contractual, HSE and quality accountability
- Take responsibility for extension of time management at project level, including sign-off on EOT submissions and coordination with the commercial team on strategy.
- Own the project’s HSE outcomes and quality assurance approach, helping build a strong safety-first and quality-focused culture.
- Approve significant subcontract procurement decisions and review budget reporting for the project.
- Back the Project Manager on head contract variations and claims work, providing strategic guidance when needed.
Candidate profile
- At least 15 years of experience in project management or senior leadership roles within construction.
- Proven delivery of building projects worth $100 million or more in a Project Director or Senior Project Manager capacity.
- Strong capability in commercial, contractual, and HSE management on major projects, with a clear understanding of head contract and subcontract responsibilities.
- Relevant tertiary study in Construction Management, Engineering, or an equivalent field.
- Demonstrated success managing client relationships on large, complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to lead, align, and motivate multidisciplinary project teams.
- Credibility and presence with clients, subcontractors, and senior leadership.
- A steady, accountable leader who maintains high standards and remains composed under commercial and delivery pressure.
Benefits and workplace culture
- Chance to contribute meaningfully within a growing and forward-looking ASX-listed organisation.
- Access to an employee benefits platform with discounts on retail, healthcare, gym memberships, and novated leasing.
- Workplace banking benefits through Commonwealth Bank.
- Access to a broad health and wellbeing program.
- A collaborative and supportive team environment with visible impact across Australia.
- The stability of a large integrated group, paired with the pace and focus of a project-led team.
- Monthly Values Awards and recognition via the company newsletter.
