Role overview
Tes is hiring a Product Owner to help shape products that support schools and educators around the world. The role sits within the Product team and is based in Sheffield or London, with a hybrid pattern that includes three office days each week. This is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of up to £58,000 per year.
The company’s purpose is to improve teaching and school operations through EdTech solutions that support safeguarding, compliance, staff management, pupil management, and other core school needs. Tes works with a large global education community and has been serving schools for more than a century.
What you’ll do
As Product Owner, you will act as the link between customer needs, business goals, and the development team. You will help make sure the product vision is clearly understood, that priorities are well defined, and that delivery stays aligned with quality, timing, and user value.
- Keep the customer perspective at the centre of product decisions by building a strong understanding of users and the market.
- Partner with product managers, UX specialists, data experts, stakeholders, and engineers to capture and refine feature requirements.
- Build and maintain a backlog that reflects customer and business needs.
- Order work by considering user value, business impact, and technical practicality.
- Support sprint planning by setting sprint goals and selecting backlog items for delivery.
- Define clear acceptance criteria so the development team knows what success looks like.
- Serve as a main contact for stakeholders across sales, operations, UX, marketing, data, and leadership.
- Share delivery progress, changes, and updates with relevant stakeholders.
- Run product demos to collect feedback and check that the solution meets expectations.
- Work with product managers on release timing and feature selection for each release.
- Help ensure releases are delivered on schedule and to a high standard.
- Act as a product specialist and advocate, sharing knowledge across teams and other product owners.
What Tes is looking for
You should bring at least three years of experience in product management or a closely related role, along with a strong focus on data and research to support decision-making and measure impact. Experience working in agile product development environments is important.
The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and collaborator who can move work forward, make decisions quickly, and handle prioritisation with confidence. You should have a record of launching successful products and contributing to business outcomes. Experience with subscription-based products is an added advantage.
You should also have familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and product delivery practices. A formal agile product management certification is beneficial, as is experience in the education sector. The role calls for someone who can communicate clearly, challenge constructively, influence stakeholders, explain strategy well, and inspire teams. Strong analytical thinking and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment are also important.
Qualifications
Any formal agile product management certification is helpful but not mandatory.
