Role Overview
StepStone is looking for an Analyst to join its Private Equity Investment Team in either Beijing or Singapore. The role is centered on sector-focused research across private equity areas such as venture capital, growth, buyout, and distressed strategies in Asia. The analyst will work closely with the investment team to evaluate private companies and private equity funds, review offering materials, financial statements, and returns, and conduct reference checks and interviews. The position also includes presenting recommendations alongside the team to the Investment Committee.

The role demands professionalism, sound judgment, reliability, and strong attention to detail.
What the Role Involves
- Carry out market research using public sources and proprietary databases to identify, measure, and interpret macro trends across multiple industry sectors.
- Review fund manager analyses, including track records and financial statements, and build valuation models for private companies using public comparables and precedent transactions.
- Assist senior researchers in sourcing and managing incoming investment opportunities.
- Evaluate pitch materials and supporting documents from prospective fund managers to pinpoint key value drivers and areas that need deeper review.
- Develop an independent view on sector or investment attractiveness.
- Build a clear investment case and communicate it effectively in both written and verbal formats, including defending the view in team discussions and Investment Committee settings.
- Use creative approaches to gather and analyze data and to test assumptions about sector and investment potential.
- Track and assess the performance of existing fund managers and portfolio companies, support meeting preparation, participate in meetings, and carry out ongoing diligence.
Candidate Requirements
- A BA/BS degree from a leading university, with a strong academic record and evidence of success in both studies and professional experience.
- Ability to represent the firm credibly in written communication and in face-to-face interactions.
- Strong analytical capability, including solid quantitative and financial modeling skills.
- Evidence of leadership potential.
- Advanced working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Willingness to take on varied responsibilities in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
- Ability to travel about 5 days per month across Asia, including Greater China, Korea, Japan, India, Australia, and Southeast Asia.
- Must be at least 18 years old to apply.
