BX Bunka is looking for an experienced payroll leader to take charge of the payroll team at its Head Office in Darra, Queensland. This is a busy, varied role where priorities can shift quickly, so strong multitasking and time management are essential.

Role overview

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for the full payroll function across multiple entities, ensuring all employees are paid correctly, on schedule and in line with legal, industrial and internal requirements. The role also includes reporting, compliance oversight, workers' compensation payroll administration and support for finance and executive projects.

Payroll operations

  • Run the company's weekly payroll end to end for around 550 employees across several business entities.
  • Make sure payroll is accurate, compliant and processed on time in line with legislation, industrial instruments and company policy.
  • Handle payroll processing for new hires, exits, leave, overtime, allowances, salary sacrifice and payroll adjustments.
  • Complete reconciliations for PAYG withholding, payroll tax, superannuation, deductions and payroll journals.
  • Maintain payroll records in accordance with legal and company record-keeping standards.

Compliance and governance

  • Keep up-to-date expertise in Australian payroll law, Fair Work requirements, Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements and employment contracts.
  • Interpret awards and employment conditions to ensure correct employee pay outcomes.
  • Track legislative changes and apply updates to payroll systems and processes where needed.
  • Ensure payroll practices meet internal controls, audit expectations and governance standards.
  • Support internal and external payroll audits when required.

Reporting

  • Prepare and share weekly, monthly and annual payroll reports for management.
  • Compile payroll data to assist with budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Produce reports on labour costs, leave liabilities, overtime, payroll tax, superannuation, headcount and other workforce measures.
  • Provide analysis and payroll insights to support management decisions.
  • Assist Finance and Executive Management with payroll projects and reporting needs.

Workers' compensation administration

  • Manage payroll-related workers' compensation payments so employees are paid correctly in line with legal and insurer requirements.
  • Reconcile workers' compensation wage reimbursements with insurers and resolve any mismatches quickly.

What you need to bring

The preferred candidate will have solid experience running an end-to-end payroll function in a medium to large organisation, along with a background in high-volume weekly payroll processing. Advanced experience with Micropay payroll software and Workforce TNA is required, together with deep knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and statutory obligations.
