Role overview

Tesla is hiring a meticulous Payroll Coordinator to support payroll operations across Australia and New Zealand. This position is responsible for accurate, on-time, and fully compliant payroll processing aligned with Australian federal and state legislation, modern awards, and sector-specific award rules. The work includes coordinating data from leave management tools, rostering software, and HRIS platforms so payroll inputs remain consistent and error-free. The role is also important for employee experience because it helps ensure pay is delivered reliably and in line with the Fair Work Act 2009, Superannuation Guarantee obligations, PAYG withholding, ATO requirements, and award entitlements such as penalty rates, shift loadings, overtime, and allowances.

The role contributes to making Tesla a strong place to work by partnering with leaders and employees across the business. The HR team values drive, innovation, collaboration, and trustworthiness, and is looking for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment and wants to help create meaningful impact.

This is a permanent, full-time position based at the Sydney headquarters. Part-time arrangements of four days per week can also be considered.

  • Oversee administration of HROS, including internal leave and rostering systems.
  • Maintain working knowledge of HR policies, procedures, basic employment law, payroll rules, and modern industry awards; familiarity with New Zealand regulations is an advantage.
  • Support system upgrades, test new functionality, and troubleshoot issues in HROS and internal leave and rostering tools.
  • Carry out internal audits of payroll and leave reporting.
  • Handle everyday employee questions through the e-ticketing system.
  • Assist with internal employee communications.
  • Manage annual workers’ compensation premium submissions.
  • Support the planning and delivery of employee engagement initiatives.
  • Help manage and improve employee benefits programs, while identifying opportunities to standardize and strengthen HR and payroll processes.
  • Provide ad hoc support for projects and broader HR operations as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in an HR or payroll coordination role, or a similar position.
  • Comfort handling employee questions about leave balances, compensation, and payroll processes.
  • Experience using internal HR systems.
  • Basic understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Self-driven and resourceful, with the ability to perform well in changing environments.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organization, time management, attention to detail, and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
