About the Company
Essendi operates the hotel and is the direct employer for this role. The ibis Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof is in an active growth phase: over the last few months, the property has improved key business metrics, refreshed its rooms, and moved from a 2-star to a 3.5-star rating, with further upgrades still underway. As part of the ibis brand and the wider Accor network, employees can access benefits such as reduced hotel stays around the world and partner discounts.
What We Offer
- A stable, permanent full-time position that can begin right away or by mutual agreement.
- An additional month’s salary plus statutory holiday pay.
- 30 days of annual leave.
- €50 per month through the Essendi staff portal, for example to help cover the Deutschlandticket; the hotel is located next to the main station, making the commute short and convenient.
- Meals for staff during shifts.
- Heartist staff pricing across the Accor group worldwide, along with discounts from partners such as Nespresso, Apple, SIXT, and HelloFresh.
- Training and development through the Accor Academy, including learning during working hours.
- Opportunities to grow within the hotel and across the global Accor organisation.
Role Overview
In this position, you will keep the 155-room hotel operating smoothly as the building technician, handling tasks independently from the basement to the roof and reporting directly to the Director. The role combines hands-on technical work, guest interaction, and coordination with external service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out regular maintenance and inspections of hotel systems and equipment.
- Work on electrical, plumbing, and air-conditioning/ventilation systems as part of routine technical support.
- Respond swiftly to technical issues and fix faults in a practical, solution-focused way.
- Organise outside contractors when needed, oversee their work, and check the quality of the completed tasks.
- Inspect all hotel areas for safety concerns and take immediate corrective action when required.
- Serve as a helpful and approachable contact point for guests with general hotel-related questions.
What We’re Looking For
- Hands-on technical knowledge in electrical work, plumbing, or HVAC/ventilation, ideally gained in building services or domestic engineering.
- Open to career changers who bring a strong technical foundation.
- The ability to work independently, stay dependable, and approach problems in a calm, practical way.
- A solution-oriented mindset and composure under pressure.
- Strong sense of responsibility, as you will be trusted with the condition of the hotel.
- A courteous and friendly attitude when dealing with both guests and colleagues.
- Willingness to work occasional weekends, since the hotel serves guests seven days a week.
Team and Working Environment
You will join an ambitious team that is genuinely proud of its progress. The hotel has already achieved notable improvements in a short period, including stronger performance figures, renovated rooms, and an upgraded star rating. The lobby and shared spaces are also continuing to evolve. If you want to help shape the property from a technical perspective and treat the hotel as your own, this environment will suit you well.
Diversity and Inclusion
The employer values diversity and aims to attract people from many different backgrounds. The focus is on who you are and what you can contribute, in an environment where everyone has the chance to participate and grow.
