About the role

Join Cubic’s Integrated Supply Chain business unit in Wellington as a Junior Purchasing Officer. In this position, you will support the CTS APAC purchasing workflow by turning requisitions into purchase orders and helping keep supplier and procurement activity running smoothly. You will report to the APAC Team Leader in Queensland and work with limited supervision.

About Cubic

Cubic develops technology solutions that improve everyday travel and support defence capabilities for those who serve their country. With teams operating across the world, the company focuses on innovation, customer service, and solving practical challenges through its businesses, including Cubic Transportation Systems and Cubic Defense.

Key duties

  • Convert purchase requisitions into purchase orders from the SAP buyer queue while meeting the required service timelines.
  • Make sure purchasing decisions deliver value, align with Cubic policies, and avoid unfair trading practices.
  • Research suppliers and purchasing options, run or refresh bids, and assess product quality, comparability, pricing, warranties, and other requirements.
  • Find and introduce better materials, tools, parts, and services, while checking supplier reliability and delivery performance.
  • Explore alternative supply sources and use bulk purchasing opportunities when practical to lower costs.
  • Review the weekly overdue purchase order report, follow up on status, and update due dates, notes, and attachments as needed.
  • Coordinate with internal teams on changing product or service needs and respond promptly to employee questions.
  • Work with the APAC Procurement team to ensure coverage of the role’s responsibilities.
  • Handle blocked invoices from Accounts so vendor payments can be processed on time.
  • Submit a weekly update to the Procurement Manager covering progress, issues, and achievements.
  • Help close out Corrective Action Requests.
  • When required, process goods receipts for incoming deliveries, including offsite facilities, and resolve any discrepancies quickly.
  • Support freight and export compliance tasks, including quotes, bookings, pickup or drop-off coordination, and shipment tracking.

Additional responsibilities

  • Follow Cubic’s Quality Management System.
  • Comply with occupational health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Observe security requirements in line with organisational policies.
  • Follow Cubic Human Resources procedures.
  • Take on other duties as requested.

Skills and experience

The role calls for a solid understanding of the purchasing cycle, including requests for quotation, plus hands-on experience with SAP ERP and Microsoft-based systems. Strong written and verbal communication, along with excellent customer service ability, are essential.

Helpful background includes work in a technology-focused company, including warehousing, and prior procurement exposure. It is also beneficial to be able to read specifications, drawings, and bills of materials; negotiate with vendors; compare quotations against specifications; stay aware of market changes; and manage a variety of buying activities.

Personal attributes

The ideal candidate is flexible, comfortable with change, well organised, methodical, and able to manage time effectively. You should also be able to communicate clearly with people at all levels, both verbally and in writing.

Employment conditions

Employment is subject to a successful National Police Check. Because Cubic operates globally across multiple time zones, this role may occasionally require availability outside standard working hours to handle urgent issues or business needs, including calls, emails, and other communications from Cubic, customers, or suppliers.

Equal opportunity

Cubic welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and does not discriminate on the basis of any protected characteristic under applicable law.
