Homemaker

Overview

The homemaker role combines kitchen, dining, housekeeping, and laundry responsibilities within the household environment. Dining Services

• Prepare meals that are nutritious, appealing, timely, and portioned according to standardized recipes and quality expectations.
• Follow menus and recipes accurately and make appropriate substitutions when needed.
• Adapt meals for therapeutic diets and other special dietary needs while keeping food enjoyable.
• Support inventory checks, storage, and ordering of household grocery items.
• Include residents in decisions about menu choices, food presentation, and recipes whenever possible.
• Keep the kitchen, equipment, and food prep areas clean, safe, organized, and compliant with sanitation rules.
• Document food and equipment temperatures as required for compliance.
• Assist with preparing and serving snacks, meals, and nourishments.
• Help residents who need eating assistance, when properly trained and certified.
• Create a welcoming mealtime setting and encourage conversation during meals.
• Set up and lead kitchen-related activities while ensuring resident safety and proper cleanup.
• Use standard sanitation practices and universal precautions to reduce food-borne illness risk.

Housekeeping and Laundry

• Keep resident rooms, shared spaces, and support areas clean and orderly.
• Maintain sufficient supplies to meet resident and household needs.
• Support the overall household environment, including interactions involving pets, plants, children, guests, and visitors.
• Coordinate with household caregivers so housekeeping tasks are completed within available staffing resources.
• Follow all sanitation requirements that apply to the physical environment.
• Use proper cleaning products and equipment for floors, furniture, bathrooms, and other areas.
• Apply universal precautions to help prevent disease transmission.
• Assist residents with washing, mending, ironing, folding, and sorting personal laundry as needed.
• Help maintain residents’ personal laundry in good condition and support self-care wherever possible.
• Coordinate with household caregivers so resident laundry and linens are handled within staffing limits.
