This Tauranga-based Field Technician position is ideal for someone beginning their career or looking to build on existing experience. Full training is provided on the job. The work is hands-on and physically active, with a focus on accurate field testing across a range of civil infrastructure projects.
Depending on project needs, the job may include outdoor work in changing weather, early starts, occasional overtime or night shifts, and travel away from home.
What you will do
- Carry out geotechnical field testing, sampling, investigation, and monitoring of ground materials.
- Support civil laboratory testing activities.
- Use heavy testing and soil sampling equipment safely and effectively.
- Monitor geotechnical instrumentation and environmental conditions.
- Record data and process test results accurately.
- Work closely with customers and engineers.
- Complete work in line with IANZ accreditation requirements and the project management system.
- Contribute to project management and customer engagement as part of the wider field team.
What we are looking for
- A full or restricted New Zealand Class 1 driver licence is required.
- Ideally, you will have 2–3 years of hands-on work experience such as labouring or farm work.
- Completion of NCEA Level 3 or higher is required.
- You need to be physically fit and able to regularly lift items weighing 25 kg or more.
- Prior experience in a similar role is an advantage, but not essential.
- You should be comfortable using computers, especially Microsoft Excel and Word.
- A willingness to work outdoors, get dirty, and take a practical approach is important.
- Strong-quality paperwork and documentation standards are expected.
- Good time management, communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills are needed.
- You should understand the value of quality management systems and processes.
- It helps to be able to think from both a commercial and customer perspective.
