Position Summary
Under the guidance of the Director of Facilities and Maintenance, this role handles assigned maintenance requests, routine repair work, recurring service tasks, and the delivery of furniture, equipment, and other items. The position also includes running errands to collect materials and tools needed for facilities and maintenance projects or repairs. The assistant works closely with internal managers and staff to complete assignments, follows safe work practices, and protects confidentiality at all times.
Reporting Structure
This position does not manage other employees. It reports directly to the Director of Facilities and Maintenance.
Compensation
This is a nonexempt, hourly position with pay ranging from $55,000 to $62,000 per year.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to assigned maintenance requests and keep the Director of Facilities and Maintenance informed when an outside contractor is needed.
- Use hand tools and power tools/equipment as required for assigned work.
- Clean and leave the work area in good order after tasks are completed.
- Pick up and transport supplies and materials for assigned jobs as directed.
- Travel to program sites in the Merrimack Valley and/or North Shore, Massachusetts, to complete work or periodic service tasks.
- Work professionally with management, employees, retail and wholesale vendors, and members of the public.
- Help assemble, install, and move office or program furniture and equipment when requested.
- Support special projects with hands-on facilities or maintenance work as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Maintenance.
- Interact respectfully with people living in Turning Point, Inc. programs.
- Support PBS values and culture while ensuring PBS interventions are carried out with integrity.
- Complete any additional duties assigned by the Director of Facilities and Maintenance.
Qualifications
- Trade school training or a related high school education.
- At least 5 years of hands-on repair and maintenance experience across residential facilities work, including use of a computer-based work request system.
- Strong working knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical systems, plumbing, and the safe operation of basic power tools and equipment.
- Understanding of safe work practices and safe driving procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and courteously to complete work on time and share information with internal and external contacts, including the Director of Facilities and Maintenance.
- Ability to follow instructions, take appropriate action, and work collaboratively with others.
- Comfort interacting calmly, professionally, and confidentially with a wide range of people and situations.
- Flexibility to adapt to frequent changes, delays, and unexpected events.
- Physical ability to operate hand and power tools/equipment, drive a vehicle or van, and lift or move materials, equipment, and furniture up to 100 pounds, with heavier items as needed.
Physical Demands
This job involves minimal sitting, moderate to frequent standing and walking, and daily driving to job sites and errand locations. Heavy lifting and pushing up to and beyond 100 pounds may be required. The work environment may include exposure to extreme heat or cold, lubricating fluids, cleaning solvents, and batteries. Eye protection and ear plugs may be required.
