About the Club

Boston Legacy FC is Boston’s professional women’s soccer club and has competed in the National Women’s Soccer League since its first season in 2026. The organization is focused on building a top-tier club both on the field and behind the scenes, with a strong commitment to women’s sports, community impact, and shaping the future of professional soccer. This is a growing startup-style environment where initiative, ownership, and fresh ideas matter.

The Opportunity

Boston Legacy FC is looking for a Director of Sporting Human Resources to act as the main people-and-culture partner for the sporting side of the club. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer/Chief Legal Officer and working closely with the General Manager, this role sits within the sporting organization and supports coaches, technical and performance staff, athletic training and medical teams, and football operations.

This position is built for someone who enjoys creating systems and supporting leaders in a high-performance sports setting. The role centers on leadership development, performance coaching, manager support, structured feedback, and training. You will also support sporting employees more broadly with areas such as performance and communication. The goal is to help create a culture that is accountable, healthy, high-trust, and oriented toward winning on and off the pitch.

The position is mainly staff-facing, though support for players may be required when needed. Recruiting, HR administration, and payroll are handled by the business-side People team, so this role can focus on leadership growth and sporting culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary people and culture partner for the sporting organization, working with the COO/CLO, General Manager, and sporting leaders.
  • Strengthen leadership capability across the sporting staff by coaching and enabling coaches, technical staff, and department heads.
  • Create and run leadership development programs suited to a high-performance sports environment.
  • Lead the performance management process for sporting staff, including objectives, structured one-to-ones, feedback routines, and ongoing coaching.
  • Serve as a confidential, impartial partner for sporting staff and players, helping maintain respectful relationships and a culture of trust and accountability.
  • Guide sporting leadership on collaboration, communication, and team dynamics across coaches, athletic trainers, medical and performance staff, the General Manager, and football operations.
  • Develop and manage HR training initiatives and oversee the learning management system for the sporting department, including content selection, launch, and usage tracking.
  • Work with the business-side People team so sporting employees are supported across the wider employee experience, while that team continues to own recruiting, HR admin, and payroll.
  • Help shape and reinforce the standards, behaviors, and norms expected in a championship-level sporting organization.
  • Stay informed about current practices across NWSL and other professional sports organizations and keep improving internal processes.
  • Travel to home games and selected away matches or events as needed, while maintaining a regular on-site presence in Massachusetts.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate brings substantial HR or talent development experience and has worked in a sports environment. Strong judgment, discretion, maturity, and emotional intelligence are essential, along with the ability to build programs from the ground up in a fast-moving startup setting.

Qualifications

  • At least 6 years of progressive experience in human resources, people operations, or talent development, including time supporting a sporting or professional sports organization; soccer experience is preferred, though other professional or collegiate sports backgrounds are also welcome.
  • Clear understanding of how a sporting organization functions and how coaches, athletic trainers, medical and performance staff, general managers, and football operations depend on one another.
  • Strong background in performance coaching, leadership development, and manager support, ideally in demanding, high-performance settings.
  • Practical experience creating and delivering HR training programs and managing LMS platforms.
  • Ability to facilitate one-on-ones, feedback cycles, and growth-oriented development conversations.
  • High emotional intelligence, discretion, maturity, and sound judgment, with the credibility to serve as a trusted neutral advisor.
  • Comfort with building structure, programs, and processes from scratch in a startup environment while driving consistent outcomes.
  • Willingness to travel to matches and events and to work evenings and weekends when required by the schedule.
  • Ability to pass a Boston Legacy FC background check and a separate NWSL-required background check.

What the Club Offers

  • Competitive pay based on experience, qualifications, and market conditions.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and eligible dependents, plus mental health support.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching.
  • Paid time off, sick leave, and recognized holidays.
  • Access to matchdays, club events, and behind-the-scenes moments as part of the founding team.
  • A close-knit, mission-driven environment where ideas move quickly and your work has a lasting impact.

Additional Information

This role requires a primary on-site presence in Massachusetts with the team, along with travel to certain matches and events. The club is building its foundation now, and this position offers the chance to help shape the culture and operating standards of a new professional women’s soccer organization.
