Role overview
We are hiring a Developer Portal & Community Manager for a partner company. The hiring partner oversees the application process and all follow-up steps. This opportunity is open to candidates based in Kenya.
The role is central to how a highly technical open-hardware product is documented, adopted, and understood by its worldwide developer audience. You will take full ownership of the Developer Portal, turning it into a dependable, well-structured reference point for engineers, contributors, and enthusiasts. In close collaboration with both hardware and software teams, you will convert internal technical work into public-facing documentation and useful community updates. This is a practical technical communication role, where a deep grasp of the product matters as much as the ability to explain it clearly. You will also connect internal engineering teams with the external community so that feedback moves in both directions effectively. The setting is fast-paced, transparent, collaborative, and strongly aligned with open development.
Key responsibilities
- Take ownership of the Developer Portal and keep improving its structure, accuracy, and usefulness for developers and external contributors.
- Turn engineering discussions, product updates, and technical changes into documentation that is easy to follow and understand.
- Keep wiki pages, GitHub repositories, and other developer-facing materials organized across several sub-projects.
- Join engineering calls and discussions to stay aligned with ongoing technical work and product direction.
- Review and moderate community issues, discussions, contributions, and pull requests to maintain quality and constructive engagement.
- Gather feedback from the developer community, distill the most relevant points, and share them with internal teams.
- Help maintain clear, structured, and productive communication within the community.
- Guide developers on how to use the portal, contribute effectively, and engage with the ecosystem.
Requirements
- Strong written communication ability, with a track record of creating clear technical documentation, guides, or README-style material.
- Good knowledge of software development workflows, including Git, branches, commits, and pull requests.
- Ability to simplify complex technical topics into well-organized explanations, using diagrams or flowcharts when useful.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to extract key insights from technical conversations.
- Comfort working alongside engineers and participating in discussions that span both hardware and software.
- Ability to separate useful feedback from noise and keep attention on high-quality contributions and dialogue.
- Strong sense of organization with an emphasis on clarity, structure, and information architecture.
- Authentic interest in developer tools, hardware products, open-source communities, and build-in-public culture.
- Fluency in English and Russian for communication with teams and the community.
- Prior exposure to DevRel, technical writing, community management, or developer portals is a strong plus.
Benefits
- Work fully remotely from anywhere in the world.
- Receive company-provided equipment to support a comfortable and productive remote setup.
- Access health and wellness support, including medical coverage, therapy sessions, and sports-related programs.
- Benefit from language-learning support and professional development opportunities.
- Enjoy flexible working hours within a structured five-day workweek.
- Work closely with advanced open-hardware and software initiatives.
- Influence how a global developer community understands and interacts with a major product ecosystem.
- Be part of a collaborative, transparent, and engineering-led environment.
