About the role
Downer’s Networks Services team is hiring a permanent, full-time Design Estimator for its Auckland office. The role supports the planning and delivery of design and estimating work for electricity distribution projects across New Zealand. The employer is open to candidates who can begin right away.
In this position, you will provide engineering design, cost estimation, and customer support for overhead and underground distribution work. You will work with internal colleagues, customers, and contractors to produce precise designs, quotations, and project records while helping ensure each project is delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Key responsibilities
- Provide design and estimating support for electricity distribution network projects.
- Produce quotations, costings, and as-built records.
- Help coordinate resources and contribute to project planning and delivery.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and support mentoring within the design team.
About you
The right candidate is a hands-on engineer or estimator who is comfortable solving practical problems within power distribution networks. You should be confident operating in both design and delivery settings, highly detail-oriented, and capable of engaging professionally with stakeholders to achieve strong outcomes.
Requirements
- Background in design and estimation for power distribution networks.
- Understanding of overhead and underground network design and construction.
- Exposure to Powerco standards and design software; familiarity with Neara is an advantage.
- Well-developed communication, organisation, and time management skills.
- Ability to use estimating systems and Microsoft Office tools effectively.
Our offer
- A competitive salary package and the tools needed to perform the role effectively.
- The opportunity to join a leading Energy & Utilities business line with collaborative, high-performing teams.
- Health and wellbeing support, including EAP, Beyond Blue, and discounted health insurance.
- Access to Perks@Downer, offering savings on retail, travel, and entertainment.
- Strong internal mobility support, including progression, succession planning, and redeployment opportunities where appropriate.
- Employment with a Tier 1 ASX-listed organisation that offers broader in-house capability than a traditional contractor.
