Data Analyst & Data Modeler (Insurance Risk)

Role overview

This six-month contract is for a Data Analyst & Data Modeler focused on insurance risk. The work is based in Toronto, Ontario, with a hybrid arrangement requiring three days onsite each week. The position centers on analyzing data, shaping models, and building reporting and business intelligence solutions with SQL, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric.

What you'll do

• Examine insurance data and map out related business workflows.
• Collect business needs and turn them into clear functional documentation.
• Create conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
• Build data mappings, validation checks, and analytics-oriented solutions.
• Develop dashboards and reports in Power BI.
• Design and support Lakehouse and Warehouse solutions using Microsoft Fabric.
• Carry out analysis and reporting using SQL.
• Work closely with business partners, developers, and Agile delivery teams.

Skills and experience needed

• Hands-on SQL and data modeling expertise.
• Working knowledge of Power BI, including DAX, semantic models, and reporting.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Lakehouse architecture, and data warehousing.
• Understanding of insurance topics such as underwriting, claims, reinsurance, and risk.
• Ability to gather requirements and manage stakeholder expectations.
• Familiarity with Agile and Scrum ways of working.
