About the role
One Stop, part of the Tesco group, is hiring a Customer Service Assistant for its Cambridge store. This is a busy retail position where every shift can look different. You’ll support the store’s day-to-day running by delivering friendly service, replenishing shelves, handling payments, and helping keep the shop floor well presented.
Customer care sits at the centre of this role. You’ll be expected to look for ways to improve the shopping experience, use feedback and coaching to strengthen service standards, and help maintain a safe and welcoming place for both customers and colleagues.
Key duties
- Serve customers with a friendly, attentive approach and aim to create a positive experience every time.
- Encourage shoppers to share feedback through the store’s customer survey.
- Work across multiple areas of the store, including online orders, tills, replenishment, vending, and stock routines.
- Apply the training provided to work safely and follow store procedures at all times.
- Support seasonal, community, and charity activity to help build an inclusive store atmosphere.
- Understand store performance and contribute to the team’s efforts to deliver profit.
- Follow company values and policies, and help make everyone feel welcome.
- Clock in and out correctly at the start and end of each shift so pay is accurate.
- Keep yourself, colleagues, and customers safe by following security procedures and using safety equipment where provided.
- Follow the Think 25 policy when selling age-restricted products.
- Respond promptly to self-checkout assistance requests and explain actions clearly to customers.
- Work in a clean, tidy, and organised way, keeping aisles free from congestion.
- At times, take responsibility for running the shift when the Shift Leader and Store Manager are unavailable.
- Follow all relevant training so the store remains safe and compliant.
- If the store includes a Post Office Local, support its daily operations and complete the required financial and criminal conviction background checks; if those checks are unsuccessful, the offer will be withdrawn.
