Role overview

Maaloomatiia Academy is looking for a seasoned Cloudera Administrator to oversee a Cloudera-based big data environment. The role focuses on keeping the platform running smoothly, securely, and at scale, with practical experience in Cloudera CDP, Hadoop administration, cluster operations, tuning, and production support.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, configure, and manage Cloudera CDP clusters in on-premises or cloud environments.
• Carry out routine maintenance tasks, including upgrades, patches, and hotfix installation.
• Track cluster health, resource usage, and availability to maintain stable operations.
• Administer and fine-tune Hadoop ecosystem services such as HDFS, YARN, Hive, Spark, ZooKeeper, and Impala.
• Diagnose and resolve service outages, failing nodes, performance slowdowns, and configuration problems.
• Apply security controls including Kerberos, Ranger, Sentry, SSL, and role-based permissions.
• Design and maintain backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes.
• Partner with development teams to support pipelines, scheduled jobs, and workloads running on the platform.
• Ensure the platform follows data governance, compliance, and security requirements.
• Keep clear records of architecture, topology, changes, and operational procedures.
• Use automation and scripting tools such as bash, Python, and Ansible to improve operational efficiency.
• Take part in on-call support rotation for incidents and production issues.
• Prepare and maintain low-level and high-level design documents along with other architecture and operations-related documentation.

Required profile

• Proven, hands-on experience administering Cloudera environments such as CDH or CDP.
• Strong knowledge of major Hadoop services, including HDFS, YARN, Hive, Spark, HBase, ZooKeeper, Oozie, and Impala.
• Experience supporting large distributed data platforms.
• Solid Linux administration skills across RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot cluster issues and improve performance.
• Practical experience with Kerberos, Ranger or Sentry, and LDAP or Active Directory integrations.
• Ability to script using Shell, Python, or similar tools.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals, load balancing, and security best practices.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP will be considered an advantage.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline is required.

Additional qualifications and notes

Preferred certifications include CCAH, CCA Administrator, or CDP Administrator credentials. Experience with automation platforms like Ansible and Terraform is beneficial. Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios, and Cloudera Manager is also desirable. Exposure to Kafka, NiFi, or other data ingestion frameworks is an added plus.
