About the Role
Old Mutual is seeking a Business Development Manager to help drive long-term growth, identify fresh commercial opportunities, and strengthen the organisation’s market position across all business units. This role sits at the centre of strategic expansion efforts, with responsibility for shaping opportunities, advancing partnerships, and supporting initiatives that improve revenue and customer value.
The position calls for close collaboration with teams across the Group, careful management of the business development pipeline, and strong attention to governance, financial discipline, and execution quality.
Core Responsibilities
- Identify, assess, and prioritise high-value opportunities across the business units to support revenue growth and market expansion.
- Manage the full business development pipeline, from initial sourcing through to deal conversion, with a focus on improving win rates.
- Work closely with business units and internal teams to speed up opportunity progression and closure.
- Serve as the main coordination point for complex opportunities that involve multiple business units.
- Support alignment, resource planning, and smooth execution across all relevant stakeholders.
- Create persuasive customer value propositions that reflect market requirements and commercial goals.
- Develop forward-looking business models, market entry approaches, and go-to-market plans.
- Structure partnerships, channels, and growth enablers that extend beyond the scope of an individual business unit.
- Prepare strong, evidence-based business cases for new initiatives and support internal approval processes.
- Lead negotiations with partners and stakeholders to secure commercially sound outcomes.
- Position the Group effectively in new and competitive markets.
- Spot synergies across business units and ensure new opportunities fit into existing ecosystems.
- Align marketing, distribution, and communications plans with Group objectives and brand standards.
- Oversee campaign development for new initiatives while protecting brand integrity.
- Define and monitor service levels for business development activities and partner relationships.
- Build and maintain governance structures, financial controls, and reporting processes.
- Ensure compliance with corporate standards and strategic priorities.
- Develop strong relationships with external stakeholders, partners, and industry leaders.
- Use professional networks to stay informed about market trends, opportunities, and best practices.
- Promote innovation, collaboration, and high performance across teams.
- Lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams to achieve commercial and strategic targets.
Requirements
- An advanced degree in business or a closely related discipline is required.
- An MBA or similar qualification will be considered an added advantage.
