About the role

The Queensland Department of Primary Industries (DPI) supports the long-term strength of Queensland’s primary industries by helping them stay productive, profitable, and sustainable. The organisation also works to empower regional communities and protect the state’s environment and biosecurity for future generations.

As an Area Coordinator, you will take a hands-on leadership role in supporting biosecurity operations, guiding field teams, and contributing to outcomes that protect Queensland’s communities and natural resources.

Key responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate multi-disciplinary field teams so operational targets and service delivery expectations are achieved.
  • Track performance and actively support delivery in line with legislation, internal policies, procedures, and the code of conduct.
  • Serve as the main point of escalation for operational matters, HR issues, and workplace health and safety concerns.
  • Manage workforce-related activities such as leave administration, payroll queries, and maintenance of accurate records and data.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and provide timely reporting to assist decision-making and strengthen continuous improvement.

What you will need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience leading and supporting large, diverse teams while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with requirements.
  • Well-developed communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to handle complex interactions and give clear direction.
  • Ability to perform well in fast-moving, high-pressure situations while using sound judgement.
  • Strong planning, organisation, and time management skills to balance competing demands and deliver results.
  • Resilience and flexibility to work in field-based settings and adjust to changing operational needs.
  • A genuine commitment to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture.
  • Confidence in using and learning workplace systems, with a strong focus on data accuracy and process compliance.
  • Collaborative working style with the ability to build relationships across different business areas.
