About Oranga Tamariki
Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children is focused on placing tamariki and rangatahi at the centre of everything it does. About the role
This position calls for a Team Leader to guide a busy group that provides information to customers in line with the Privacy Act and Official Information Act requirements. The role is centered on building a strong and capable team through effective people leadership, coaching, and day-to-day support.
You will oversee workflow, uphold quality expectations, and provide leadership across risk management and reporting. The role also contributes to ongoing service and process improvement while reflecting the ministry’s mission and values.
The role will be based at the Ellerslie offices in Auckland.
What you will do
- Direct a team that handles customer information requests and related support work.
- Strengthen team capability through coaching, guidance, and people management.
- Coordinate workflow and help the team meet quality standards.
- Support reporting and risk-management activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes.
What you need to bring
To succeed in this role, you should have experience leading customer-focused teams and a practical understanding of coaching and systems thinking. A working knowledge of the Privacy and Official Information Acts is important.
You should also be comfortable handling several priorities at once, managing relationships across different levels, and working effectively in cross-cultural environments. Knowledge of tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples’ culture will be an advantage.

This role sits within a step-based pay structure with annual progression based on tenure and experience. The annual salary range starts at $106,416 and goes up to $117,782, depending on experience.
