About the role
Suncor is seeking an experienced and motivated Steamfitter/Pipefitter Journeyperson to join the Energy and Utilities Maintenance Execution team at the Base Plant site in Fort McMurray, Alberta. In this position, you will contribute to the reliability of critical energy and utility systems while working in a team-oriented environment that values safety, performance, and continuous growth.
This opportunity is based at the Base Plant Mine location and is safety sensitive. The role involves work in a range of environments, including indoor and outdoor areas, confined spaces, elevated work platforms, scaffolds, and towers. Heavy lifting and ladder work may also be required.
What you will do
- Take apart, repair, and reassemble piping systems as needed to keep operations running reliably.
- Build pipe spools according to required specifications.
- Contribute to reviews after events occur, including root-cause conversations and the development of corrective actions.
- Keep technical records current and work in line with preventive maintenance practices.
- Look for ways to improve work methods, procedures, and safety performance.
- Prepare for jobs by assessing materials and choosing the right components.
- Work closely with others in a flexible team setting and communicate clearly.
- Partner with maintenance and operations teams to help improve plant and equipment reliability.
What you need
- At least 5 years of experience as a Steamfitter/Pipefitter in a heavy industrial environment.
- A valid Alberta Journeyperson Steamfitter/Pipefitter Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Steamfitter/Pipefitter Certificate.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- A valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
- A strong commitment to safety, including practical knowledge of WHMIS and OH&S requirements.

Additional details
The shift pattern is 5 on, 4 off, 5 on, 5 off, 4 on, 5 off, with 12-hour day shifts.
If you live outside Fort McMurray, you must relocate your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray.
