Role Summary

This position supports the Store Manager with the day-to-day running of thrift store operations to help ensure smooth service delivery across all store functions. When needed, the role also performs the duties of a Sales Associate.

Key Duties

  • Provide courteous, positive service to customers and donors.
  • Safeguard the condition and integrity of donated goods.
  • Accurately process customer purchases, including cash and debit transactions.
  • Help support store budget goals by maintaining strong service standards.

  • Serve as acting Team Lead/Working Supervisor for Store Associates when the Store Manager is absent.
  • Provide operational guidance and on-the-job coaching when required.
  • Maintain a safe workplace by following health and safety requirements.
  • Carry out other related tasks as assigned.

Internal contacts include NRO Administration, TS management, and staff. External contacts include donors, clients, and contractors.

This role reports to the Store Manager and does not have direct reports.

Working Conditions

This is a permanent, full-time position in a normal retail store setting. The work involves regular physical activity, including stretching, bending, twisting, pushing, standing, walking, and lifting up to 30 pounds without assistance. The role also involves frequent exposure to dust, fumes, and changing temperatures, as well as regular deadlines, repeated tasks, and interactions that may involve conflict with guests, donors, vendors, and employees.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

Candidates should be willing to understand and support The Salvation Army in Canada’s mission and purpose as it relates to the role.
