Role overview
The Service Worker I supports safe, efficient patient care across hospital units and other assigned areas. This role helps keep day-to-day operations running smoothly by moving patients, equipment, specimens, charts, and supplies, while also maintaining cleanliness and organization in care areas.
Key duties
- Move patients, residents, or clients, as well as equipment, between patient care areas within the hospital.
- Deliver, restock, and monitor hospital supplies across units.
- Clean equipment and patient care areas as directed.
- Handle transport of laboratory specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts when required.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and support restocking of linen and supplies.
- Report supply shortages, safety concerns, and other issues to unit management.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations and patient care.
Schedule and job details
This is a regular full-time position with an FTE of 1.00. The worksite is Royal Alexandra Hospital in the Greater Edmonton Metropolitan Area. The role is part of the Preadmission / Adult Day Surgery / Short Stay Unit program. Scheduled shifts are 7.75 hours long, over a 4-week cycle with 20 shifts. The shift pattern includes days, evenings, and weekends, with days off according to rotation. Vehicle use is not required.
Minimum pay is $22.33 per hour and maximum pay is $24.38 per hour. The available start date is 17-JUL-2026, and the posting closes on 07-JUL-2026.
Required qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent level of education.
- Strong communication ability in English, including speaking, reading, and writing.
- Comfort using a computer.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Dependable, cooperative, and able to provide effective customer service.
- Previous experience in a hospital environment.
Preferred experience
- Background in supply management.
