Overview

Microsoft Research India is a prominent research lab working on innovations across artificial intelligence and machine learning, theory, technology and empowerment, and systems. With a long-standing presence in India, the lab has built a reputation for high-caliber computer science research and impactful projects.

This research role offers the chance to contribute to advanced computer science and technology work alongside highly accomplished colleagues. The team is seeking outstanding researchers with a proven background in AI/ML, including model development, scalable machine learning architectures, infrastructure support for ML workloads, and inventive large-scale uses of ML models. The work is interdisciplinary and may extend into areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, information retrieval, systems, theory, and connected fields.

Responsibilities

The researcher will be expected to contribute strong scientific reasoning and analytical thinking to open-ended research efforts. The role involves exploring new ideas, handling shifting problem statements, and taking on different responsibilities as the project evolves.

You will collaborate closely with researchers, engineers, product groups, and both internal and external partners. A key part of the role is to help move research toward meaningful publications and practical influence, while also supporting and guiding interns and other team members where needed.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline. They should bring excellent programming and communication abilities, along with the capability to carry research and development from concept through implementation and deployment.

Experience working effectively in collaborative environments is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant industry experience, a record of innovation, and evidence of impactful delivery. A strong publication history and contributions that reflect the candidate’s level of experience and seniority are also desirable.
