Role overview

The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is looking for a Radiographer to join its plain film radiography team. The role focuses on producing clear, high-quality diagnostic images as part of the radiology service.

Main duties

  • Carry out a wide variety of radiographic examinations independently, both inside the department and in other clinical areas such as theatres and wards.
  • Help use staff and equipment efficiently so patients receive examinations that are safe, accurate, and completed without unnecessary delay.
  • Take part in the department's out-of-hours rota and, by agreement with the radiology manager, support any duties that are not rostered.
  • Explain procedures clearly to patients and carers with different levels of understanding so they can cooperate during examinations.
  • Provide reassurance and encouragement to patients and carers throughout the process.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams about examination requirements and results.
  • Maintain strong working relationships within the team and across other departments and disciplines to support service improvement.
  • Use x-ray and related equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Report equipment faults to senior staff and keep accurate records of issues, while ensuring colleagues are informed about equipment status.
  • Build your knowledge of IR(ME)R and IRR99 regulations and work with Radiation Protection Supervisors to monitor and improve systems and practice.
  • Enter, store, and share patient information on the Radiology Information System while protecting data quality, integrity, and compliance with legislation, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • A BSc in Radiography or D.C.R.(R).
  • Current HPC registration.
  • Capability to carry out all general radiography procedures.
  • Prior experience in the NHS.
  • Working knowledge of radiation safety rules and relevant procedures.
  • Availability to work out of hours, with a 30-minute on-call response time.
  • Flexibility to meet changing service needs.
