Role overview
This is a permanent, onsite role based in Tema, Ghana. The Project Quantity Surveyor will play a central commercial role on major road, bridge, and concrete construction projects, helping shape project outcomes, profitability, and delivery performance.
You will work closely with engineers, project managers, and international stakeholders in a dynamic environment. The position goes beyond standard quantity surveying and includes commercial leadership across complex infrastructure work, contract negotiation, cost control, claims management, variations, and process improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Meet clients to understand project scope and requirements.
- Support feasibility studies, site surveys, and cost estimating activities.
- Assist in drafting contract documentation.
- Prepare bills of quantities from available drawings.
- Compile request-for-quotation packs and share them with prospective subcontractors.
- Help review and prepare subcontractor contract documents.
- Track and assess subcontractor progress.
- Support the Project Director in identifying commercial risks and proposing practical solutions.
- Analyse project costs and report differences against the plan.
- Maintain records of lost time for extension-of-time submissions.
- Prepare cost reports and commercial updates.
- Prepare, submit, and follow up payment applications, claims, and invoices until approval is received.
- Manage subcontractor valuations and confirm interim payment certificates.
- Liaise with clients, client representatives, and third parties on variations, claims, and additional commercial matters.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports in a timely manner.
- Help the team follow internal commercial procedures consistently.
- Look for ways to improve processes and working methods.
- Apply company policies and procedures appropriately.
- Lead and support team members to encourage a positive working environment.
- Coach and train staff to build capability and knowledge.
Requirements
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying, or an HND/degree equivalent in Quantity Surveying.
- Membership of, or progress toward, a recognised chartered professional body.
- Relevant experience in the building or construction sector.
- Experience with road, bridge, and concrete construction is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of FIDIC contract conditions or similar international contract forms.
- Practical experience with variations, payment certificates, and final account preparation and negotiation.
- Strong understanding of estimating and cost analysis for construction works.
- Exposure to CVR is desirable and considered an added advantage.
