About the Role
This entry-level product design engineering position at 3Designco.com in Raleigh, North Carolina is designed for someone eager to start a career in hands-on product development. You will work closely with senior engineers and industrial designers to move ideas from early concepting through CAD development, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing readiness. The company operates in a creative, fast-moving environment where design, engineering, and manufacturing come together to build real consumer and industrial products.
What You Will Do
- Take part in brainstorming and design reviews by contributing sketches, concept ideas, and product refinements.
- Create, update, and improve 3D CAD models with support from senior engineers, using tools such as Fusion 360, Onshape, and Rhino.
- Help turn digital concepts into physical prototypes by researching, sourcing, and purchasing components, hardware, and materials.
- Support product testing by setting up mechanical trials, collecting results, and using the findings to improve designs.
- Learn and apply design-for-manufacturing principles for processes such as injection molding, machining, assembly, and cost optimization.
- Prepare renders and supporting documentation, including assembly instructions, technical materials, and product visuals using KeyShot and Adobe Creative Suite.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, or another related technical discipline is required; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- No professional work experience is needed, as the company will train and mentor the selected candidate.
- Foundational exposure to 3D CAD through coursework or personal work is important, and experience with Fusion 360, Onshape, or Rhino is a plus.
- You should have a practical mechanical mindset and curiosity about how parts fit, move, and function together.
- Strong organization is needed, including the ability to track simple bills of materials.
- Good spatial reasoning, a proactive problem-solving approach, and clear communication are expected.
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Experience using 3D printers, laser cutters, or basic shop equipment from classes, labs, clubs, or personal projects.
- Exposure to KeyShot or Adobe Creative Suite tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator.
- A portfolio or project summary that shows CAD work, design thinking, or physical builds.
Work Details
This is a part-time onsite role based at 8801 Fast Park Dr. #111, Raleigh, NC 27617. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, and the position reports to the Product Development Manager.
Compensation
The role pays $20 per hour.
