About Yara Belle Plaine

Role Overview

The Payroll Specialist will handle payroll administration, employee benefits, and related people data with a strong focus on accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and confidentiality. The role also supports workforce planning, reporting, and HR operations while working closely with leaders and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on schedule for employees of Yara Belle Plaine and Yara Canada, including payroll journal entries and year-end activities.
  • Keep employee payroll, benefits, attendance, and personal records current in ADP while ensuring data quality and compliance.
  • Oversee the Yara PeoplePath system and personnel files, maintaining secure, accurate, and reliable records.
  • Handle employee benefits administration with providers and staff, acting as a primary contact for questions and updates.
  • Arrange and support employee onboarding, including session coordination and preparation of necessary documentation.
  • Prepare HR and payroll reports and analyses, such as turnover, headcount, payroll metrics, and other ad hoc requests.
  • Support the annual salary budget cycle by maintaining the budget tool and working with leadership on position updates.
  • Administer modified work schedules and averaging permits in line with regulations and internal policies, including EDO/turnaround and shift schedule coordination.
  • Prepare reconciliations, documentation, and remittances for benefit providers and regulatory bodies such as Sun Life, Canada Life, PEPP, Sutton, WSIB, CNESST, Revenu Québec, and Employer Health Tax, as needed.
  • Manage contracts connected to employee loan programs.
  • Maintain wage and salary schedules and help administer the Concur employee expense program.
  • Serve as backup to the People & Culture Specialist and contribute to other assigned tasks.
  • Support the People & Culture Manager with team initiatives and projects.

Experience and Qualifications

The ideal candidate brings hands-on payroll and HR experience in a complex, high-volume environment and is comfortable working across multiple jurisdictions. Strong attention to detail, system proficiency, and knowledge of payroll compliance are essential.
