Labourer (Arenas)

Overview

The City of Kitchener is hiring continuous part-time labourers to support its premier sports and entertainment venues in Southern Ontario. This role contributes to the daily operation of multi-use facilities, with work based at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.

The schedule is varied and may include a range of shifts, with most hours expected in the evenings and on weekends to cover regular programming and special events. Completion of mandatory online training is required before your first day on the job.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out routine janitorial duties according to the daily and weekly schedule, including cleaning washrooms, dressing rooms, meeting and hospitality areas, public spaces, stands, and exterior grounds.
• Sweep and mop dressing room floors using the appropriate tools.
• Clean sinks, counters, toilets, urinals, mirrors, windows, walls, floors, drinking fountains, and other frequently touched surfaces.
• Collect garbage, recycling, compost, and other waste, then move it to the proper disposal areas.
• Replenish paper supplies and related consumables.
• Assist full-time staff with ice-related work such as moving nets and shoveling snow.
• Help prepare rooms and event spaces for special events and rentals by setting out chairs, tables, stage decking, and curtains.
• Support outdoor upkeep, including snow clearing, hand salting, grass cutting, line trimming, and litter collection.
• Assist with baseball diamond preparation, including raking and sweeping.
• Deliver professional customer service to patrons and guests.
• Use skating ability to support public skate operations and patrols, while monitoring patrons to ensure compliance with city rules.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience

This position requires a minimum of partial secondary school education and up to one month of related experience.

Working Conditions and Additional Requirements

• Availability is needed for weeknight and weekend shifts, including some holidays.
• Shift start times may be as early as 7:00 a.m. and end as late as 1:00 a.m.
• The role may involve working in a cold indoor environment as well as in all types of outdoor weather.
• Applicants must be able to work in a fast-paced team setting with limited supervision.
• Reliability, a positive attitude, and a solid employment record are expected.
