Junior Field Protection Engineer

Role Overview

This opportunity is with Siemens in Abu Dhabi for a Junior Field Protection Engineer. The position is part of the Smart Infrastructure business and focuses on protection and automation work for high-voltage transmission projects across the UAE and the wider Middle East.

The role is suited to engineers who want international exposure, hands-on commissioning experience, and the chance to work with advanced digital power distribution and building technologies in a multicultural environment.

What You Will Do

• Carry out testing and commissioning for Siemens protection and automation systems on assigned projects.
• Prepare SAT and FAT protocols along with related technical records.
• Support Pre-FAT and FAT activities with customers for protection panels such as AVR, LIBBP, HIBBP, TIP, and similar systems.
• Develop commissioning procedures, including method statements, work permits, and testing protocols.
• Contribute to product feedback, approvals, and improvement efforts.
• Deliver technical presentations to customers and other stakeholders.
• Investigate faults and perform root-cause analysis on protection systems.

What You Need

• A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Electrical & Communication Engineering.
• 2 to 3 years of experience in protection and automation commissioning.
• Prior exposure to multicultural project environments.
• Experience with substation protection projects in the Middle East or other international markets is an advantage.
• Working knowledge of Siemens protection platforms such as SIPROTEC 4, SIPROTEC 5, and Reyrolle.
• Understanding of power quality and substation automation systems.
• Strong grasp of IEC 61850, GOOSE messaging, and relay configuration tools.
• Experience creating control logic using BCPU/BCU and working with SCD, ICD, and CID files.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols used in protection systems.
• Advanced hands-on experience with OMICRON test equipment and Test Universe version 4.20 or above.
• Ability to use modules such as Distance, Line Differential, Transformer Differential, State Sequencer, Ramping, Transplay, and OCC files.
• Knowledge of HV transmission protection schemes, including line distance protection, line differential protection, transformer main and backup protection, and busbar protection with low and high impedance.
• Exposure to stability testing for line differential protection using CMGPS kits.
• Experience testing transformer, shunt reactor, and series reactor differential protection.
• Familiarity with modern digital substation concepts such as Process Bus and RTU integration.
• Self-driven approach with strong problem-solving ability.
• Good communication skills and confidence in customer-facing interactions.
• Fluency in English.
