Role Overview
Extendicare is hiring a full-time Housekeeping Aide/Housekeeper for its Vulcan, Alberta long-term care home. The role focuses on keeping resident spaces clean, safe, well-stocked, and comfortable while supporting a respectful and privacy-conscious environment for residents and their families.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should have completed Grade 10. Previous experience in an institutional setting is preferred, ideally in long-term care. The role also calls for the ability to operate common cleaning equipment such as washers, dryers, and vacuum cleaners, along with a practical understanding of infection prevention, WHMIS, and inventory control. Strong English reading, writing, and communication skills are required.

Key Duties
The housekeeping aide is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment throughout the home, managing stock and supplies, and delivering courteous service to residents.
- Remove waste and keep resident areas tidy through routine cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and emptying wastebaskets.
- Follow infection control procedures, disinfect resident areas daily, and use cleaning solutions and supplies at the correct levels.
- Carry out heavier cleaning tasks, including windows and walls, and prepare rooms for new residents through deep cleaning.
- Rearrange furniture when needed and report broken equipment or building repair concerns promptly.
- Track inventory, reorder supplies as needed, and replenish items to keep housekeeping operations running smoothly.
- Protect resident privacy, respect personal belongings, and speak up for resident needs when appropriate.
Health and Safety Expectations
All duties must be completed in line with occupational health and safety laws, company policies, and safe work practices. The position requires participation in mandatory safety training, proper use of protective equipment or clothing, and immediate reporting of hazards or unsafe conditions. Employees must avoid any behaviour that could place themselves, coworkers, contractors, residents, or family members at risk.

Employees are expected to safeguard private health and employee information at all times. This includes avoiding unauthorized access, sharing, alteration, or disposal of confidential records, as well as keeping usernames, passwords, and sensitive discussions secure.
