About the company
EightByZero is building the data infrastructure layer that connects employer HR systems with group insurance carriers. The business is venture-backed, showing strong traction commercially, and operated by a compact, experienced, bilingual team.
Role overview
This position sits at the center of product and operations. One part of the job is to partner closely with engineering to shape what gets built. The other is to run customer implementations end to end: onboarding employers and carriers, coordinating data integrations, and handling the operational complexity that comes with linking two sides of a regulated industry.
The company is looking for a second person to share the responsibilities currently handled by the COO. This is a co-ownership role covering two of the most important functions in the business, not a traditional support position.
Product responsibilities
- Collaborate with the founders and engineering team to define product needs and turn them into clear specifications for development.
- Stay close to live customer implementations and feed those learnings back into roadmap decisions.
- Review and challenge new features before release to identify mismatches between the build and real customer needs.
- Take ownership of defined product areas as the company grows.
Operations and implementation responsibilities
- Lead customer onboarding from signed contract through successful live data exchange.
- Run day-to-day data integration work between employer HR systems and insurance carrier platforms.
- Investigate and resolve issues that arise during or after rollout, escalating only when necessary.
- Create repeatable processes and internal tools that make future implementations faster and smoother.
Cross-functional responsibilities
- Track the business metrics that show implementation health, bottlenecks, and areas needing improvement.
- Represent the company professionally with senior customers and handle conversations without always relying on a founder.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate has 2 to 4 years of experience in a role where the scope went beyond the official title. Experience in a small team with limited structure is important, along with the ability to work independently without a step-by-step playbook.
Management consulting experience from a top-tier firm is preferred, and exposure to product management is valuable. A technical or engineering background is a plus, but a strong business background is also acceptable if you are comfortable in technical settings, can read code, and have worked closely with engineers.
You should be technically confident, comfortable with tools and concepts such as LLMs, SQL, REST APIs, JSON, and basic scripting, and inclined to automate rather than rely on spreadsheets. The role also requires a polished client presence, calm problem-solving under pressure, and writing that is concise, direct, and clear.
Growth opportunity
As the company expands, product and operations are expected to become separate leadership tracks. This role is intended to shape both areas from the beginning and position you to lead the function you want to own. It is one of the earliest operating hires on the team.
Compensation and work setup
The package includes a competitive base salary and meaningful early equity. Downtown Montréal is preferred, and the working arrangement is hybrid, with an onsite preference in the Greater Montreal Metropolitan Area.
