Role Overview
The Flight Attendant’s main responsibility is to keep passengers safe while they are onboard. The position also includes delivering attentive service, supporting travelers throughout the flight, and serving food and beverages. It is a fast-moving role suited to someone who enjoys variety, travel, and handling new situations every day while representing SkyWest in a professional manner.
Primary Responsibilities
- Protect the safety and comfort of passengers throughout the flight.
- Help maintain a positive, respectful, and productive atmosphere with both coworkers and customers.
- Prepare, serve, and replenish drinks, meals, and snacks, including sales of onboard food and alcoholic beverages where permitted.
- Welcome passengers, assist with stowing carry-on bags, and make cabin announcements.
- Lead and support passengers during both routine and emergency situations.
- Handle in-flight issues calmly, including disruptive behavior and medical incidents.
- Check and use cabin systems, emergency gear, and safety equipment in line with regulations, including escape slides, fire extinguishers, portable oxygen bottles, and AEDs.
- Follow established procedures and performance expectations independently.
Minimum Requirements
- Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Before training begins, candidates must have a valid U.S. or foreign passport book that remains valid for at least 12 months after the application date, along with any visas needed for unrestricted travel between the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
- Strong English communication skills are necessary to explain safety information and prepare clear, accurate, and detailed reports for irregular, emergency, and security-related events.
- Comfort with basic electronic devices and personal electronic devices is needed for audio/video systems, purchase tracking, and training tasks.
- Applicants must be available for varied shifts of up to 16 hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Frequent travel and extended periods away from supervision should be manageable.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
- Willingness to relocate, after successful completion of SkyWest InFlight Training, to one of the assigned crew domiciles is required.

Physical and Appearance Requirements
- Height and weight must allow safe operation of the aircraft, including fitting into the jump seat, fastening the harness, moving through the cabin aisle, and operating emergency exits. For safety reasons, height must be between 5'0" and 6'0" without shoes.
- Applicants must be physically able to perform frequent walking, bending below ankle level, reaching above shoulder level, opening emergency exits, closing aircraft doors weighing up to 45 pounds, and pushing or pulling a beverage cart weighing up to 250 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Corrected vision must not be worse than 20/40.
- Normal or corrected hearing must fall within the 15–17 kHz range.
- Personal appearance must be neat, clean, and professional.
- Extreme hairstyles or hair colors are not allowed.
- One nose piercing in the form of a single stud up to 2 mm is acceptable; up to two piercings per ear are allowed.
- Gauges must be filled with clear or skin-toned plugs and may not exceed 1/2 inch.
- No other facial, mouth, or tongue piercings are permitted.
- Visible tattoos are allowed only within size and placement limits; any tattoos outside the guidelines must be covered by the uniform or skin-tone tattoo makeup. Bandages cannot be used to cover tattoos. Offensive tattoos must never be visible.
- A company-issued uniform and any required face mask or covering must be worn, and appearance standards may be updated during training or employment.
Pay and Schedule Details
After completing the first two phases of initial new-hire training, new flight attendants are guaranteed 76 flight hours as a reserve. Whether you fly fewer than 76 hours or the full guarantee, pay is based on 76 flight hours.
The starting rate is $30.32 per flight hour. Based on the monthly guarantee, that equals $2,304.32 gross per month, not including per diem, boarding pay, or any additional flight hours beyond the monthly guarantee.
Per diem is paid at $2.25 for each hour spent on duty away from your domicile.
