Estimator

Role Overview

A well-established groundworks and civil engineering contractor is seeking an Estimator to strengthen its pre-construction function. The position is based in Kent, with regular travel to projects and meetings across London and the South East. This is a chance to work on a solid pipeline of infrastructure and enabling works, producing pricing for complex packages and supporting the business’s long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Build accurate quantity take-offs and prepare detailed cost estimates for groundworks, civils, and enabling works packages.
• Examine tender documentation and identify commercial and contractual risks.
• Work closely with clients, engineers, and subcontractors while bids are being assembled.
• Develop pricing schedules and assist with the preparation and submission of tender bids.
• Monitor current market pricing and keep cost records and databases up to date.
• Carry out site visits and take part in value engineering conversations.
• Assist with the transition of awarded work to the delivery team.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of estimating experience within groundworks, civils, or enabling works.
• Sound knowledge of construction techniques and commercial estimating principles.
• Confident use of estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong attention to detail along with clear written and verbal communication skills.
• A full UK driving licence is essential.
• A Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying is preferred.
• A CSCS card is preferred.
• Experience in infrastructure, basements, piling, or remediation is an advantage.

Employment Details

This role is available on either a permanent or freelance basis. The employer offers a competitive salary or day rate, depending on experience. The position is centred in Kent, with travel required to sites and meetings throughout London and the South East.
