About the role
SSS - Cybersecurity Specialists is seeking an intermediate Cybersecurity Analyst to join its Wellington CBD team. This position offers the chance to progress your career while supporting the 24/7 Security Operations function for important organisations across New Zealand.
The role goes beyond a conventional SOC analyst position. The team is looking for someone who brings an engineering approach, is keen to improve through automation, and is interested in using AI tools to help evolve modern security operations.
Key responsibilities
- Track the ticket queue and act on security alerts and incidents in a timely manner.
- Carry out day-to-day operational tasks such as health checks, alert review, trend analysis, and client-facing reporting.
- Bring new clients onto SIEM and SOAR platforms and resolve platform-related technical issues.
- Prepare and deliver monthly SOC reports for clients.
- Help design and improve automation and playbooks that strengthen detection and response capabilities.
- Take part in the on-call schedule that supports the round-the-clock SOC.
What you need
The company values people who align with its culture and working style:
- Put the client first by focusing on outcomes that matter to them.
- Continuously improve and strive for security excellence rather than settling for the minimum.
- Bring specialist expertise and sound judgment to the team.
- Show energy, enthusiasm, and genuine commitment to cybersecurity work.
To succeed in this role, you should bring at least 2 years of experience in cybersecurity analyst, cybersecurity engineer, or a similar position. You will also need hands-on exposure to SIEM, SOAR, and EDR platforms, along with strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, clear communication, and attention to detail. Accurate investigations, complete documentation, and consistent delivery against SLAs are important in this role.
Additional strengths that would be very useful include experience with automation platforms such as Tines, Torq, or XSOAR; scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, KQL, or similar tools; and familiarity with building or integrating AI tools, LLMs, or agentic SOC workflows into operations, detection engineering, or investigations. Industry certifications such as Security+, Blue Team Level 1, SC-200, or other relevant cybersecurity qualifications would also be advantageous.
