The Opportunity
IGN Entertainment is hiring a Cinematographer to support studio, event, and field production work. In this role, you will guide the visual approach for shoots across core, branded, and event teams, with responsibility for camera aesthetics and camera operation. The position calls for a personable, team-oriented professional who can coordinate smoothly with multiple stakeholders while managing several productions at once.
Projects can range from compact crews of four people to large-scale productions with more than 30 team members, taking place both locally and across international locations. This is a full-time, in-office role based in Los Angeles with a Monday through Friday schedule. Because of event timelines, client needs, and equipment load-in/load-out requirements, you should be prepared to work evenings and weekends when needed and to travel frequently, including internationally.
The work also includes physical demands such as extended sitting, standing, and computer use, plus on-site duties like moving, loading, and unloading equipment, setting up lighting, and handling camera gear from handheld units to jibs. You must be comfortable navigating airports, hotels, and event venues during travel. IGN Entertainment encourages applicants from traditionally underrepresented communities to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary advisor on camera styling for studio, off-site, and field productions, including lighting choices, camera placement, and camera movement.
- Partner closely with core content and branded producers to shape the visual direction of each production.
- Set and maintain camera configurations so each shoot uses the appropriate shutter angle and aperture.
- Determine lighting needs for each production and ensure the lighting setup is functioning properly, coordinating with an external Lighting Director when additional work is needed.
- Manage camera inventory, confirm that all cameras and related support gear are operational, and oversee any required maintenance.
- Handle camera and lighting equipment check-out and check-in for field assignments.
- Support Project and Production Managers with studio scheduling and crew planning, including helping source camera operators, temporary Directors of Photography, and other production resources.
- Work with producers and camera operators to ensure safe operation of studio and field cameras, their support systems, and related grip and production equipment used for camera and lighting setups.
Job Qualifications
Must-haves:
- At least 3 years of experience in camera and lighting work in studio and/or field environments.
- Strong grasp of lighting equipment, lighting types, and lighting techniques.
- Hands-on experience with lighting design and rigging.
- Solid technical knowledge of professional camera systems such as Sony FX6, Blackmagic, and URSA.
- Good understanding of cinema and broadcast lenses.
- Knowledge of color profiles such as S-Log, RAW, and Rec. 709.
- Ability to build LUTs and perform video color correction using tools like DaVinci Resolve.
- Experience with Adobe Premiere and Adobe Photoshop.
- Strong interest in IGN and/or games, comics, films, television, and entertainment media.
Bonus qualifications:
- Familiarity with professional lighting control systems such as ETC EOS.
- Ability to operate a jib of 9 feet or longer.
- Experience setting up camera and lighting equipment for events with limited setup time.
