직무 설명
Job purpose
The Chief Estimator will lead the estimating function and provide day-to-day oversight of the department’s work. This role exists to deliver tender submissions that are commercially strong, technically sound, and highly detailed for major civil engineering projects. A key part of the position is to help grow the company’s presence in the mining-sector civil construction market. The successful candidate will use established industry relationships to uncover private mining opportunities, manage pre-qualification activities for major mining houses, and direct the preparation of complex estimates that reflect the safety, quality, and logistical demands of mining work.
Key job outputs
- Lead the estimating department and maintain strong quality controls across all work outputs.
- Support market expansion into mining-sector civil construction through business origination and relationship building.
- Develop and submit senior-level tender strategies and bid documents.
- Assess project risks and apply commercial measures to reduce exposure.
Education and experience
The role calls for a B.Sc or B.Tech in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management. Professional registration with SACQSP or ECSA is strongly preferred. Candidates should bring at least 20 years of experience in civil engineering construction, including a minimum of 10 years as a Lead Estimator or Chief Estimator handling tenders valued above R500 million up to R2 billion or more. Direct experience of 5–7 years estimating and successfully securing mining-related civil construction projects is required, along with extensive exposure to the South African and SADC construction markets.
Technical capabilities
Applicants must be highly proficient in RIB CCS (Candy). They should understand first-principles estimating for earthworks, concrete, and infrastructure production rates, and have a strong working knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and its cost implications. The role also requires the ability to prepare concise, executive-level tender summaries that suit a highly detail-focused leadership approach.
