Role overview
The Chief Economic Adviser serves as the top economic authority for senior leadership and leads a multi-disciplinary unit made up of directorate heads. In this permanent, full-time role, you will turn complex analysis from multiple sources into practical, decision-ready guidance and help shape economic strategy, policy direction, and risk oversight at the highest level.
This is a high-impact opportunity for someone who can set the analytical direction of a sophisticated institution, maintain independence and rigour, and provide leadership with a single, coherent view on the most important economic issues. The position requires deep expertise as well as the presence and judgement to both advise and challenge senior decision-makers.
Reporting line and structure
The role reports to senior leadership and has 5 direct reports, consisting of directors.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the lead economic adviser to senior leadership by converting complex, multi-source analysis into clear recommendations.
- Define the analytical priorities for the unit and allocate resources to the economic questions that matter most.
- Bring together fiscal, monetary, investment, and structural reform analysis into one integrated strategic perspective.
- Lead, coach, and align the directorates so that all outputs are rigorous, independent, and delivered on time.
- Create and maintain a high-performance culture while helping attract exceptional economic talent to the unit.
- Set and enforce standards, workflows, and quality assurance measures for analytical work.
- Represent the unit in senior forums and engage effectively with external stakeholders.
- Lead the expert-adviser network on major economic matters.
- Protect the credibility and intellectual independence of the unit’s work at all times.
Qualifications and experience
Candidates should hold a Master’s degree or PhD in Economics, Public Policy, Finance, or a closely related field.
A minimum of 15 years of senior-level experience is required in economic policy, advisory work, central banking, international financial institutions, or a comparable leadership setting.
Applicants should have a proven history of advising high-level decision-makers, along with strong expertise in macroeconomics, public finance, and development economics. Cross-sector judgement is essential. Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and in building or reforming institutions will be considered a strong advantage.
