Role overview

This full-time permanent role is based in Wellington and sits within the Property Performance Improvement & Quality (PIQ) team. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of data, systems, and business process improvement.

The PIQ team helps the Property leadership group and wider business units plan, manage, deliver, and make decisions across a substantial portfolio of work, including projects and programmes that drive major infrastructure and business change.

What you will do

As the Business Data Analyst, you will support the Property function by turning complicated information into clear analysis that improves planning, reporting, and decision-making. You will look for issues and improvement opportunities, then help shape practical solutions using approved Ministry tools and platforms.

Your work may involve enhancing reporting datasets, supporting Power Apps and other Power Platform solutions, cutting down dependence on manual spreadsheets, documenting processes, preparing user guidance, assisting with training, and contributing to day-to-day reporting and analysis.

Experience and skills needed

To be effective in this role, you should bring strong experience in data handling, process improvement, and stakeholder communication, along with familiarity with government property environments and digital tools.

You will be expected to produce high-quality written reports and presentations, manage multiple improvement activities to deadline, and work confidently with a broad range of audiences on complex matters.

Advantageous experience

It would be beneficial if you have supported platform migrations, moved teams away from manual spreadsheet-based reporting, tested business applications, validated outputs against source records, documented defects, or assisted with user acceptance testing. A working understanding of SQL, relational data, data dictionaries, data lineage, data quality, or data governance would also be an advantage.

Pay and other terms
