Role overview
As an Assistant Manager, you’ll help lead the in-store customer experience and support the wider store operation. The role centers on coaching the team, improving service quality, and taking responsibility for key areas such as sales performance, training, staff coordination, visual presentation, and asset protection. When the Store Manager is unavailable, you’ll step in and handle the full range of managerial duties. Success in this position is judged by how well the store meets its sales targets and profit objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Guide, encourage, and coach team members so they can boost sales while delivering strong customer service.
- Keep customer satisfaction high by staying well-informed about the full product range and working closely with colleagues to support the sale.
- Meet expectations across sales, customer experience, merchandising, presentation standards, and day-to-day store operations.
- Serve as a link between shoppers, sales staff, and store leadership.
- Build product knowledge and share insights on trends so customers get recommendations that suit their needs.
- Stay current on product details as well as existing and upcoming trends.
- Help maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership skills, backed by at least 1 year of experience in a customer-facing sales role.
- Comfortable approaching customers and creating an engaging, elevated shopping experience.
- Driven by results and energized by customer interaction and athletic products.
- Able to adapt quickly to shifting priorities in a fast-moving omnichannel retail environment.
- Self-starter who can complete tasks independently without constant supervision.
- Strong numerical and analytical ability, including problem solving, decision making, and financial analysis.
- High standards of ethics, integrity, trust, and personal values.
- Available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
