Role Overview

The Storeman is responsible for receiving, staging, storing, and issuing merchandise in line with department needs and company standards. The role supports stock accuracy, inventory control, food safety, and efficient stores operations within a hospitality environment.

Key Duties

• Receive goods, sort them by department, label them correctly, and deliver them to the right destination.
• Place incoming stock on pallets or carts and complete requisitions for inventory and supply needs.
• Track stock levels, alert the manager or supervisor when supplies run low, and keep records updated daily.
• Store perishables correctly, rotate stock, and follow first-in-first-out practices and cold chain requirements.
• Inspect all deliveries for freshness, cleanliness, consistency, quality, and correct quantities.
• Reject damaged, unsuitable, or incorrect items and report refusals to the relevant management team.
• Maintain sanitation in storerooms, walk-ins, refrigerators, freezers, floors, equipment, and drains.
• Remove empty pallets, cardboard, trash, and other waste to the correct storage or disposal area.
• Support inventory control, stock counts, and data entry for requisitions and store records.
• Work closely with cost control, receiving, and stores teams to ensure accurate procedures are followed.

Safety, Compliance, and Conduct

The position requires strict adherence to safety rules, food handling procedures, hygiene standards, and company policies. The incumbent must use PPE where required, follow safe lifting methods, report hazards or incidents promptly, and complete any required safety training or certifications. Professional appearance, confidentiality, asset protection, and respectful communication are also essential.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This is an active role that involves standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. The work may involve narrow spaces, stairs, ramps, uneven or slippery surfaces, and extended periods on shift. The candidate must also be able to read small print and visually verify information accurately.
