Role overview
AMCS Group is looking for an experienced Software Architect to join its Architecture function in Limerick. The role focuses on shaping the design of a cloud-native platform using modern tools, methods, and engineering practices. You will work across business units with Engineering and Product teams to make sure implementation stays true to architectural direction and supports large-scale enterprise delivery.
This position calls for someone who can assess technical risk, define non-functional requirements clearly, and communicate architectural intent effectively. Strong collaboration, a practical mindset, and a proactive approach are important. The role combines solution architecture with hands-on development, so you should be comfortable contributing to core platform work as well as guiding architecture decisions.
The company is a sustainability software specialist headquartered in Ireland, with offices across Europe, the USA, and Australasia. It employs more than 1,300 people in 22 countries and provides SaaS products that help resource-intensive industries improve efficiency and move toward a carbon-neutral future. Its software supports over 5,000 customers in 23 countries.
What you'll do
- Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to shape the product roadmap and the technical work needed to support it.
- Support the delivery of a secure, scalable, reliable, and cost-effective cloud platform.
- Create, document, and uphold architecture standards and engineering best practices.
- Lead the design and implementation of secure software solutions that can scale.
- Explain non-functional requirements and architectural designs clearly in both written and verbal formats.
- Spot strategic technical debt and help drive its reduction.
- Work closely with development teams to keep solutions aligned with approved architecture.
- Assess and recommend technologies, tools, and processes that improve product quality.
- Offer technical guidance and mentoring to engineering teams.
- Contribute directly to core platform packages and template projects.
- Stay current with emerging technologies that can improve the platform and delivery outcomes.
- Work with Architecture, DevOps, and Platform Engineering teams to automate deployments, apply governance, and support regulatory compliance.
- Protect data security, privacy, and adherence to internal policies and external standards.
What you need
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 8 years of software development experience.
- At least 3 years in a software, technical, or solution architecture position.
- Strong knowledge of cloud-native architecture patterns and design approaches.
- Experience building dependable distributed enterprise systems that handle large traffic volumes.
- Excellent attention to detail and comfort with complex technical problems.
- Solid command of the Microsoft technology stack, including .NET/C#, Web API, Azure services such as Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, Application Insights, Key Vault, and AFD, as well as Azure DevOps.
- Working familiarity with Google Cloud Platform tools such as GKE, Postgres, and Cloud Functions.
- Knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript frameworks such as Angular and React.
- Good understanding of the software development lifecycle, including DDD, TDD, and CI/CD.
- Experience with event-driven architecture, microservices, and Kafka.
- Exposure to container technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker.
- An Azure or .NET certification is considered an advantage.
- Ability to use Copilot or similar AI tools to improve design and coding productivity.
- Interest in AI technologies and how they can help teams deliver faster and create more business value.
- Strong curiosity, eagerness to learn, and excellent stakeholder, documentation, and communication skills.
