About the Role

Join a fast-growing super-app business in Doha as a Senior DBA / Database Engineer. In this role, you will take charge of database reliability, performance, and scalability across several services, while partnering with backend engineers, SRE, and architects to support high-throughput, low-latency systems.

Key Responsibilities

Set up, run, and tune PostgreSQL, BigQuery, MongoDB, and key-value databases such as Redis and DynamoDB.
Maintain high availability, replication, backup and restore processes, and disaster recovery readiness.
Track and improve latency, query efficiency, and indexing performance, especially at p95/p99 levels.
Investigate slow queries, refine schemas, and improve data access patterns.
Plan for growth and capacity needs using both vertical and horizontal scaling approaches.
Design and enforce strategies for consistency, integrity, and data retention.
Support microservices-based systems using distributed data patterns.
Help control database spend and optimize infrastructure usage.
Work with engineering teams on schema design, migrations, and data modeling for SQL and NoSQL systems.
Automate routine database operations such as backups, failover, and maintenance tasks.
Implement strong security, access control, and compliance practices.
Take part in incident handling and root cause analysis.

Requirements

At least 5 years of experience working as a DBA or Database Engineer.
Strong hands-on knowledge of PostgreSQL, including indexes, MVCC, vacuum, replication, and partitioning.
Solid MongoDB experience, including replica sets, sharding, and performance tuning.
Practical exposure to key-value stores like Redis, DynamoDB, or similar systems.
Deep understanding of query optimization, execution plans, transactions, consistency models, and indexing methods.
Background working with production systems under heavy load.
Comfort working in cloud environments, with AWS preferred.
Experience using monitoring platforms such as Datadog and Prometheus.
Strong troubleshooting and performance-tuning capability.
Nice-to-have exposure to distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architecture, AWS Database Migration Service, data caching, CQRS, eventual consistency, Terraform, scripting, Kubernetes, ECS, and high-traffic or e-commerce platforms.
