About the Role
Discord is looking for a flexible Product Creative Designer & Illustrator to join its Creative Studio within the Product Design organization. This role helps shape in-app experiences for millions of users, with a strong focus on Collectibles content inside the product. The work differs from a classic agency or brand-illustration position because it is created directly for a live product, where collaboration, technical feasibility, and design-system consistency are all essential.
You will help build creative assets that make the platform more expressive and enjoyable for people before, during, and after gaming. The role calls for someone who can think conceptually, adapt across visual styles, and work closely with product designers, animators, engineers, publishers, and vendors.
Key Work Areas
- Create and illustrate a broad set of Collectibles assets such as avatar decorations, profile effects, nameplates, and profile frames in multiple visual styles, including characters, effects, objects, and environments.
- Develop concepts, storyboards, and illustrations that communicate ideas clearly while staying within product limitations and user experience goals.
- Design marketing layouts for the in-app Shop that feel native to the product and align visually with the broader Collectibles world.
- Collaborate with publishers and external vendors by directing artwork, sharing detailed feedback, and ensuring output meets Discord’s brand standards and technical needs.
- Work with Product Designers, Engineers, and PMMs to make sure creative assets fit the interface, perform well, and support the overall product experience.
- Own multiple assignments at once, manage delivery from start to finish, and keep stakeholders informed about priorities and timelines.
- Participate in critiques and reviews by giving and receiving feedback, then refining work toward the strongest possible result.
Requirements
- A portfolio that shows strong, expressive illustration and graphic design across several styles, ideally with shipped work in a product or established brand environment.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in design or production within an in-house creative team or agency, preferably in tech, gaming, or entertainment.
- Strong command of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, along with a sharp sense of composition, color, typography, and visual hierarchy.
- Experience creating work within brand rules and design systems so it feels aligned with an existing visual identity.
- Experience working with outside partners, vendors, or publishers, including creative direction, feedback management, and deliverable coordination.
- Confidence presenting concepts and explaining design choices to cross-functional teams.
- Ability to absorb feedback, iterate quickly, and produce final assets that satisfy both creative goals and technical constraints.
Preferred Skills
Experience with animation or motion design is a plus, especially knowledge of how static artwork can translate into movement. Familiarity with Figma is also considered an advantage.
Compensation
The base salary range for this full-time U.S. role is $148,000 to $166,500 annually, plus equity and benefits. Final pay depends on role level and factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
