Position Overview
Grande Yellowhead Public School Division is hiring a probationary teacher for Niton Central School in Niton Junction, Alberta. The role begins on September 1, 2026, or on a mutually agreed start date, and continues through June 29, 2027. This is a full-time 1.0 FTE position scheduled from Monday to Friday.
Niton Central School is an elementary and middle school serving students from JK to Grade 9. It is located in Niton Junction, about 30 minutes east of Edson, within Grande Yellowhead Public School Division.
Role Summary
The successful teacher will bring a collaborative approach, strong comfort using educational technology, and an understanding of assessment for learning. The teaching assignment is a split Grade 7/8 class. While a Mathematics and Science background at the secondary level is preferred, the course load can be adjusted depending on the selected candidate’s background and experience.
Key Duties
- Deliver lessons that support student-centered and high-quality learning.
- Plan and prepare curriculum-based instruction using a range of teaching approaches such as lectures, demonstrations, and discussions.
- Create inclusive classroom practices that broaden learning opportunities for all students.
- Assess student progress, knowledge, and skills, and meet all reporting and evaluation deadlines.
- Follow provincial legislation, board policies, and division procedures.
- Build positive and constructive partnerships with parents and guardians.
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should hold an Alberta teaching certificate, or be eligible to obtain one, and must have a Bachelor of Education degree. Experience with the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS) and the integration of literacy across subjects is also expected.
Benefits and Leave Provisions
The division supports professional learning by allowing teachers and principals to apply for up to $2,500 per year toward professional development. Teachers also receive $725 per year through a Health and Wellness Spending Account.
Available leave provisions include 4 personal leave days per school year, with the ability to accumulate up to 11 total personal leave days under the Local ATA Collective Agreement. Other available leave includes up to 90 sick leave days, up to 3 family medical leave days per school year, bereavement/critical care leave, and access to a Deferred Salary Leave Plan.
