Opportunity

Auckland Council is hiring a full-time Planning Information Advisor on a fixed-term basis through January 2027. This role sits within the Planning Information Advisor Team, also known as the Planning Helpdesk, and is centered in Albany with flexible working arrangements.

The position offers the option to work some days from local hubs in Auckland Central, Henderson, or Manukau City Centre. Training and support will mainly be provided from Albany or the Central Auckland Office, with some remote work possibilities.

What you will do

You will use your planning background and local government experience to support council customers with regulatory planning advice. The role plays an important part in helping achieve environmental outcomes and protecting the council’s reputation through accurate guidance.

You will also contribute to improving the consistency and efficiency of the Regional Planning Helpdesk by working closely with teams across Resource Consents, Building Consents, Compliance, and other stakeholders.

The role comes with a strong training and support structure.

About you

To be successful, you should have planning experience and a tertiary qualification in urban planning, resource management, or a related discipline, ideally recognised by NZPI.

You will need a strong understanding of the Auckland Unitary Plan, the Resource Management Act 1991, and awareness of planned and upcoming legislative updates. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. A restricted or full clean New Zealand driver’s licence is required.
