Role overview
The Payment Operations Manager will own and improve the operational programs behind debit card activity, with particular emphasis on fraud control, supply chain coordination, and internal tooling. This position serves as the main contact for bank partners and card processors, helping ensure a smooth experience for both customers and internal teams. The role also focuses on lowering support volume tied to debit card operations, strengthening processes, and using data to guide decisions and fraud mitigation efforts.
What you will do
- Act as the central contact for debit card operations and handle questions or issues raised by internal teams and external partners.
- Work with the Product team to plan and launch debit card pilots and new payment initiatives.
- Manage relationships with important vendors such as card processors, card printers, BIN sponsors, and other service partners.
- Coordinate the debit card supply chain, including ordering supporting materials with third-party vendors so cards can be issued to members on time.
- Serve as the systems administrator for card processing platforms, partnering with processor teams to diagnose and resolve issues across the organization.
- Handle cardholder disputes inside the processor system and ensure they are closed accurately and promptly.
- Find opportunities to simplify workflows, cut operating costs, and improve service delivery across debit card operations.
- Build and update internal documentation for debit card processes to support consistency and knowledge sharing.
- Design, implement, and manage fraud rules and prevention strategies that reduce losses while preserving a strong customer experience.
- Review and improve debit card operations tooling, including monitoring and reporting solutions, to make sure the most effective tools are in use.
- Track fraud patterns, analyze trends, and take preventive action to reduce risk and stop fraudulent activity.
Experience and skills
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in payment operations or debit card programs.
- Proven ability to manage projects, timelines, operating methods, and stakeholder communication.
- Experience identifying, evaluating, and reducing risks tied to payment operations, compliance, and vendors.
- Working knowledge of debit card and payment processing regulations, including PCI DSS and KYC/AML.
- Ability to stay current with regulatory updates and maintain compliance in day-to-day operations.
- Familiarity with Fiserv environments such as Mainframe, Service Center, and Web Portal.
- Experience introducing new processes and tools while following strict change-management controls.
- Strong analytical ability to study complex data and spot fraud patterns and trends.
- Hands-on experience with reporting and data tools such as Excel, SQL, or fraud analytics platforms.
- Background in building data-backed fraud prevention approaches.
- Ability to train teammates on new systems and processes, including creating support materials.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Member Support, and Finance.
Compensation and benefits
The expected base salary range for this role is $105,000 to $135,000 USD. Final pay will depend on the candidate’s location and experience.
