Position Overview
The Operating Executive Director is a senior leadership position focused on keeping day-to-day business operations efficient, productive, profitable, and aligned with the organization’s long-term direction. This role is responsible for shaping operational plans, guiding cross-functional teams, refining business processes, and making sure operational execution supports strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate daily operations across departments and business units.
- Create and roll out operational policies, procedures, and plans that support company objectives.
- Raise efficiency, productivity, and cost effectiveness by finding and acting on improvement opportunities.
- Track KPIs and operational measures to confirm progress toward business targets.
- Partner with executive leaders to design and execute major business initiatives.
- Handle operational budgets, forecasting, and allocation of resources to improve performance.
- Maintain adherence to internal policies, industry requirements, and quality benchmarks.
- Spot operational risks and build practical mitigation plans to protect business continuity.
- Drive change management efforts and continuous improvement programs.
- Align cross-functional teams to ensure smooth business execution.
- Oversee workforce planning, employee development, and performance management in operational teams.
- Assess and introduce technology solutions that strengthen operational performance.
- Develop strong working relationships with clients, vendors, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Compile operational reports and share performance insights with executive leadership and the board.
Qualifications
The role calls for a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Management, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline. An MBA is preferred.
Candidates should bring 15 years of progressive experience in operations management, including senior leadership exposure, along with a track record of leading large operational functions and cross-functional teams.
Strong business operations knowledge, experience in process improvement and organizational development, and hands-on involvement in budgeting, financial analysis, and performance management are important for success.
The position also requires excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and decision-making abilities, plus strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Applicants must be able to manage several priorities at once in a demanding, fast-moving business environment.
Preferred Skills
Experience in strategic planning and large-scale organizational change is highly valued.
Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, Agile, or similar operational excellence approaches is a plus.
Strong project management and change management capabilities are desirable.
Experience working with enterprise systems and business process automation tools is beneficial.
Ability to lead, motivate, and coordinate diverse teams across multiple locations is preferred.
