Math Researcher

Role Overview

This is a short-term remote contract for a mathematics specialist to support model evaluation and reasoning research. The work is based in India, runs for 11 weeks, and requires an immediate start. The role calls for an 8-hour workday, with 4 hours overlapping Pacific Standard Time. Compensation is $450 per task, paid after approval.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and solve advanced mathematics questions used to assess large language models.
• Write complete, easy-to-follow solutions with clear intermediate reasoning.
• Work with LLM researchers on benchmark creation and reasoning-focused tasks.
• Contribute to the design of new evaluation sets covering mathematics from undergraduate through PhD level.
• Tackle difficult math problems using structured logic and careful analysis.
• Present mathematical ideas in plain language, supported by examples and visuals where helpful.

Requirements

• A master’s degree, PhD, or ongoing PhD study in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related discipline is preferred.
• Hands-on proficiency in at least three tools from the following list: Magma, Macaulay2, Singular, GAP, SageMath, Polymake, 4ti2, LattE, DIPHA, PHAT, AUTO-07P, XPPAUT, Perseus, Stan, PyMC, OR-Tools, Z3, PARI/GP, and fpLLL.
• Strong research capability and analytical thinking.
• Ability to think creatively and approach problems from multiple angles.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote setting.
