Role overview
EMS Healthcare is seeking an IT Engineer to deliver practical, hands-on technical support across its IT environment. The role is focused on keeping colleagues connected, protected and productive by ensuring dependable access to the systems, devices and services they use every day.
You will handle core day-to-day IT operations such as resolving incidents, managing service requests, administering endpoints, supporting Microsoft 365, controlling user access, assisting with networking and security tasks, and supporting business applications. This position also involves working with colleagues across the business, external suppliers and the wider IT team to resolve issues, look after IT assets, support joiners and leavers, strengthen documentation and contribute to technology improvements and projects.
This is a service-led role suited to someone with strong troubleshooting ability, clear communication skills, good prioritisation and a proactive mindset for improving how IT support is delivered.
Main duties
- Deliver first- and second-line support to colleagues, resolving incidents and service requests quickly and professionally.
- Set up, configure, deploy and maintain laptops, desktops, mobile devices, printers and other workplace hardware.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, groups and access changes across Microsoft 365, Active Directory and essential business systems.
- Support Microsoft 365 tools such as Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online and Intune where needed.
- Investigate and resolve issues involving hardware, software, connectivity, VPN, Wi-Fi, networking and peripherals across office, remote and mobile working environments.
- Keep IT asset records accurate by tracking equipment through purchase, deployment, support, return and disposal.
- Assist with onboarding, role changes and leavers by granting and removing access in line with IT and information security processes.
- Carry out routine security measures, including MFA support, endpoint protection checks, patching activities and escalation of suspected security events.
- Prepare and update technical documentation, support guides, asset logs and knowledge base content.
- Support IT projects, system enhancements, supplier coordination and the deployment of new technologies across the organisation.
Experience and skills required
Ideally, you will have worked in an IT support, service desk, desktop support or infrastructure support position before. Experience with Windows devices, Microsoft 365, user account management, permissions and common business applications will be useful, as will hands-on exposure to hardware, software, networking, printing, remote access and mobile device issues.
You should also be comfortable maintaining asset records, writing technical documentation or working with an IT ticketing or service management platform.
Strong troubleshooting across Windows, Microsoft 365, endpoints, applications and connectivity is important, along with a solid working understanding of Microsoft 365, Windows operating systems, Active Directory, device management and basic networking principles. Awareness of cyber security best practice, including MFA, password management, endpoint protection, patching and access control, is also needed.
The role calls for someone who can prioritise tasks, balance competing requests and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues. Good record keeping, attention to detail and a customer-focused, practical and proactive attitude are essential.
Other requirements
- You must be a full UK resident and hold a valid driving licence, with suitable transport arrangements in place; public transport is not recommended because of the office location.
- You must be able to travel within the UK and overseas when required.
Benefits
- Bank holidays, plus 25 days of annual leave, rising to 28 days after 5 years.
- Option to buy and sell holiday.
- Enhanced maternity and paternity leave.
- One occasion day each year, which can be used for a child’s first day at school, a nativity play or your own birthday.
- Healthshield healthcare cash plan.
- Cycle to work scheme.
- Electric car scheme.
- Tech scheme.
