Role overview
The Housekeeper role is part of the ward team and focuses on helping create a clean, safe, comfortable, and well-organised environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The post holder will coordinate patient facilities and ward services, making sure cleaning, catering, and minor maintenance support are delivered to a high standard and tailored to patient needs as directed by the Ward Sister or Charge Nurse.
What you will do
- Make sure ward areas remain clean, tidy, safe, and welcoming, including patient bed spaces, equipment, and shared areas.
- Support infection prevention through strong hygiene routines and good waste handling practices.
- Work alongside domestic, catering, and maintenance teams to keep ward operations running smoothly.
- Help manage stock levels and report maintenance issues so repairs can be carried out promptly.
- Assist with food service, including helping patients choose meals, serving food appropriately, and supporting safe eating and drinking.
- Carry out minor maintenance and other allocated tasks to meet individual patient needs.
- Monitor service quality, identify shortfalls, and suggest improvements where needed.
- Support patient dignity, comfort, and basic wellbeing at all times.
- Contribute to health and safety compliance and raise concerns when standards are not being met.
